Ludhiana, June 5, 2018: Department of Pediatrics, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana organized a one day, CME on Neonatology for the practicing pediatricians of the region. Dr Gurdeep Singh Dhooriafrom DMCH,Ludhiana was the organising secretary for the CME. The CME was attended by more than 200pediatricians of Ludhiana and other districts of Punjab. The faculty included speakers from New Delhi, Chandigarh and DMC & H Ludhiana.The topics included Survival and outcome of extremely low birth weight babies, Feeding of Low birthweight babies,Functional Echocardiography, Optimizing treatment of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy and Antenatal Hydronephrosis.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sushma Nangia, stressed the need to initiate complete enteral feeding in low birth weight babies from birth to prevent infections and reducing hospital stay. Dr Daljit Singh, former Principal, DMCH showed improved outcomes of preterm babies in the current decade because of better neonatal care, antenatal steroids, caffeine citrate, therapeutic hypothermia, more frequent CPAP use. Dr Dhooria elaborated on systematic evaluation of fetal and postnatal hydronephrosis to prevent risk of urinary tract infection and chronic kidney disease. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMCH Ludhiana, Dr Puneet A Pooni, Head, Pediatrics Department, Dr Harmesh Singh Bains, Vice President IAP and Dr Gurdeep S Dhooria, Organising Secretary of the CME. The CME was appreciated by all delegates.
