International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations was celebrated by the cadets of 1 Pb R&V SQN NCC, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
The girl cadets were apprised of the significance of the day by Lt. Dr. Nittin Dev Singh, Associate NCC Officer and Dr. P.P. Dubey, Care Taker Officer of the Unit. The cadets were told about the rights of the girl child as right to education/access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and child marriage. The girl cadets were motivated for raising their voice against any social evil like child marriage, gender discrimination, female foeticide etc which are like a cancer in present society. On one side the girls are being inducted into armed forces, as fighter pilots and moreover girls are reaching top positions of policymakers, still in many parts of India the girls are not even provided basic education.
Dr. Nittin told them about various Govt. policies like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao etc which are helping and motivating the parents to educate their girl child.
Lt. Col. Tushar Upasani, Officer Commanding of the Unit told the girl cadets that they being privileged and are getting the best education should standup against various social evils in the society and also take up as a challenge to free the society of various evils being faced by the girl child. India is still a developing country and still faces social evils like female foeticide, child marriage, right to education, gender discrimination etc.
