National Workshop Concludes, PAU Experts Stress On Developing Farmer-Friendly Technologies

Ludhiana, December 24, 2015: A two-day national workshop on “Natural Resource Management for Climate Resilient Agriculture in Lower Himalayas” concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University’s Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri. More than 90 scientists, academicians, researchers and students representing 20 institutes from six Himalayan states participated in the workshop. There were five sessions under various themes viz. soil health, conservation agriculture, integrated farming system, rainwater management and organic farming. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Soil Conservation Society of India, New Delhi.

Chairing the concluding session, Dr S.S. Gosal, Member, PAU Board of Management, called upon the scientific community to develop location specific, economically viable technologies in view of the changing climatic scenario.

In his presidential remarks, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, PAU urged the researchers to develop farmer-friendly technologies through participatory approach. He further emphasized on the effective dissemination of technologies for sustainable rural livelihood.

Dr Atul, Director of Extension Education, CSKHPKV, Palampur urged for collaborative research to address the common issues related to farming community in the region.

Dr Sanjay Arora, Vice President, Soil Conservation Society of India, New Delhi and Dr S.S. Kukal, Professor, Department of Soil Science, PAU presented the recommendations, emerging out of the deliberations during the workshop.

Dr Mamohanjit Singh, Director, Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri thanked the University authorities for the necessary infrastructure and the sponserers for financial assistance for holding this workshop.
