M.Venkaiah Naidu woos top Singapore companies to invest in India

New Delhi, November 8, 2014: Asserting that doing business in India is getting much easier now, Urban Development Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu today made a feverish pitch for investments from Singapore into urban development schemes like building smart cities, improving infrastructure in urban habitations and Housing for All by 2022 besides other sectors.

Venkaiah Naidu, who is on a three day visit to Singapore, today interacted with chief executives of leading companies of the city state from various sectors like Construction, Electrical and Electronics, Automobiles, Banking, Consultancy Services, Power, Shipping, Oil and Gas Exploration and Building and Construction Authority of Singapore. Naidu was happy to know of the enhanced interest among the leading companies of Singapore to invest in India. India’s High Commissioner in Singapore Vijaya Thakur Singh besides senior officers of the Ministries of Urban Development and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation also participated in the interactive session.

Venkaiah Naidu informed the top executives of Singapore based companies that India is currently marching towards ensuring an economic turnaround. He further said, ‘ease of doing business in India’ is improving and more significant changes are in the offing. Stating that India has the necessary human resources with talent, Naidu urged the investors to come to India with ‘money and machines’ to realise the Prime Minister’s clarion call of ‘Make in India’.

Venkaiah Naidu also met Singapore’s Minister for National Development Desmond Lee and Second Minister for PMO, Home, Trade and Industry Eswaran and discussed the new investor friendly climate being put in place in India. Eswaran said, he would be coming to India soon for the ‘Vibrant Gujarat Summit’ and will hold further discussions regarding investment opportunities.

The Urban Development Minister interacted with a large section of Indian Diaspora in Singapore organised by the Global Organisation for People of Indian Origin. Naidu gave an account of the initiatives being launched by the government as per the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for speeding up economic recovery and for inclusive development. He urged the Persons of Indian Origin to contribute for rapid development of India and to preserve and promote the rich cultural legacy of their motherland.
