Municipal Corporation Ludhiana to install static compactors at Dugri garbage dump on Oct 2

Ludhiana, September 25, 2016: Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) is all set to install the static compactors near garbage dump of Dugri area on October 2. This is a pilot project in entire Punjab which will be replicated at other parts of the city as well.

According to the officials, three compactors would be installed at one site. These compactors are meant for the garbage collection from the rehri pullers who throw the garbage at the dumps in open.

They would throw garbage in the bins attached to the compactors. It would then seal the garbage in the compactor. Garbage compactors and waste collection vehicles compress waste so that more of it can be stored in the same space.

Mayor, Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said, "We have fulfilled our promise to provide relief from the garbage lying in open by launching these static compactors. After seeing the success rate we will install static compactors at 10 more locations in the first phase rest city will also be covered gradually."

Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said that heaps of garbage lying in open have become an eye sore for everybody therefore they are going to end this problem with the help of static compactors. He said that even under smart city mission they have to pay special attention towards solid waste management.
