Chandigarh, January 15, 2017: An Open Tournament of Futsal – a form of football played between two sides having 5 players each, was held. The tournament concluded with the final match at Kickstart, a 5-A-Side Football Astro-Turf Stadium, located at The British School, Sector 44-B, Chandigarh. The Final match was played between Mohali FC & Arsenal in floodlights; installed in lush green playing field of The British School, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest at the Final match was Ravi Kumar, Councillor, Chandigarh & Guest of Honour was Sanjeev Chadha, General Secretary, Chandigarh Vyaapar Mandal.

The tournament which saw participation of as many as 65 teams was organised by Kickstart in Association with The British School, Chandigarh. The semi finals were played between S 3 Club & Mohali FC in which Mohali FC won. The other semi was played out between Arsenal & CFC 41 in which Arsenal won. The finals saw a closely fought encounter between Mohali FC and Arsenal. The match ended in a 4 all draw after which, a penalty shoot-out took place. Mohali FC prevailed in this by scoring 3 goals against Arsenal’s 2, thereby winning the Five a side open Football tournament. The highest goal scorer was Mohit Sharma from Mohali FC.

On the sidelines of the final match Mona Sethi, Principal said,“It is a matter of pride for us that we are the First School in tricity to have installed a one of a kind 5-A-Side Football Astro Turf . The Astro turf is very different from the normal grass as it is built to be played in all weather conditions.”

The duo that organized the tournament too shared their views. According to Gunjeet Sodhi, one of the organisers, “The infills technology enables players to play freely, make free tackles and slides as the silica sand and rubber granules acts as shock absorbers.” Sahil Mahajan, the other organiser explained , “The Astro Turf stadium also has an extensive drainage system so whenever it rains, the water is absorbed and discharged through the drainage pipes.”
