Mining department takes stern action against illegal mining

Ferozepur, July 21, 2017: Taking cognizance of the illegal sand mining taking place in this border district, the mining department has taken action against six persons following instructions from Ramvir, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur. Gurjant Singh, GM, Industrial Department cum Mining officer, said Salwinder Singh, resident of Village Changali Qadeem was allegedly digging out sand from the mines without any prior permission. “The person had submitted a application to dig out his fields for sand but no decision was taken yet. Still he started digging his fields for which we have wrote to SHO Kulgarhi to lodge an FIR against this person”, said GM.
In another case five trucks carrying illegal sand have been impounded at Kulgarhi police station and a penalty of Rs.20,000 each have been imposed.

On June 12th, this year the Deputy Commissioner Ramvir along with battery of officials raided a place near Village Jhoke Morre where illegal mining was going on unabated. Noticing the presence of the DC, the persons who were allegedly loading the sand into their trolleys with JCB machines, instead of moving away, rather started protesting against the DC and tried to obstruct the officials from doing their job. A Person identified as Gurmit Singh who owes allegiance to one of the Kisan Union (Krantikari) entered into an argument with DC following with the police team accompanying the DC had to intervene before things could take an ugly turn. Sources said that Gurmit also allegedly tried to manhandle one of the officials in presence of the DC. Later, on the basis of complaint lodged by Narinder Kumar Tehsildaar, a FIR under sections 353/186/148/149 of IPC was lodged against Gurmit Singh besides another ten unidentified accomplices at Lakho-Ke-Behram police station.
