Mini Women Fair Held at PAU

Ludhiana, March 21, 2016: The College of Home Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a “Mini Women Fair” in the village Talwandi Khurd on the concluding day of the RAWE programme. Dr Gurinder Kaur Sangha, Dean, College of Home Science presided over the concluding function. An exhibition depicting work done during 40 days in the adopted village was inaugurated by Dr Pushpinder Singh Aulakh, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU. He assured the villagers of continued support from the University.

Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Head, Home Science Extension and Communication Management and Programme Coordinator, shed light on the activities conducted in the village. She told that biogas awareness, medical camp, environment safeguard campaign, celebration of International Women’s Day and awareness on nutrition garden and medicinal plants were the major activities conducted during the programme. Besides, adoption of farm families by students for imparting home science technologies and practices was another highlight of the programme, she said. Vegetable kits, water testing kits and university literature were in great demand among the women, she added. She appreciated the efforts of Dr Kanwaljeet Kaur and Dr Preeti Sharma in organizing extension activities. She also thanked all the heads of the departments of Home Science, Microbiology, Vegetable Science and Agronomy for their support.

Dr Sangha and Dr Aulakh appreciated the efforts of the students and the village Panchayat members, particularly, the Block Samiti President and village Sarpanch, S. Ranjodh Singh in making the programme a great success.

Earlier, S. Ranjodh Singh, while welcoming the dignitaries, requested for continued efforts of the University for making the village youth adopt new technologies and become skillful in entrepreneurial development.

During the fair, a student presented the report of the activities and a feedback was given by a young girl from the village. Village Panchyat honoured the guests and the university experts. The help rendered by Chief Medical Office and PEDA was also acknowledged in organizing camps in the village.
