Mexican Football Federation to decide coach's future

Mexico City, July 2 (IANS/EFE) Mexican Football Federation (FMF) officials have said that Miguel Herrera's continuance as coach of the national team will be decided in the coming days.

The federation was most likely to let the national coach stay in charge until the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reports EFE.

Herrera met with the national team officials in the FMF, Hector Gonzalez Inarritu, and Ricardo Pelaez, the sporting director of the Mexican team after returning to the country following their ouster from the FIFA 2014 World Cup round of 16 at the hands of the Netherlands.

Inárritu spoke to media stating that "the idea is continuity. I've always thought that the ideal thing is continuity, and obviously the results are very important".

Herrera said that there is no rush to decide his future and the former Mexican defender's first duty after returning from Brazil is to submit reports of the Mexican campaign during the 2014 World Cup.

"If the conditions are right, I really want to continue, but we'll wait, no rush to think about what follows," said Herrera.

The national coach expressed his sadness over the exit of El Tri, yet he said he is proud of his players' performance and thankful for those who gave support to him.
