The event, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, witnessed the presence of a large number of faculty members, officers, staff, and representatives from various departments. Prof. Rajbir Singh was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Sharanjeet Kaur, former Chairperson of the RCI.

Speakers at the ceremony noted that Prof. Rajbir Singh is the longest-serving Vice-Chancellor in the university’s history. Under his leadership, MDU achieved significant progress in academics, research, administration, and student welfare.

Dean Academic Affairs Prof. S.C. Malik, in his welcome address, highlighted the strengthening of research culture under Prof. Rajbir Singh’s guidance. Initiatives such as free research methodology workshops, scholarships, the Research & Development Cell, the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, and the state-of-the-art Next-Gen Genome Sequencing Research Lab were described as landmark achievements.

In his address, Prof. Rajbir Singh expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by four successive Governors - Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Satyadev Narayan Arya, Bandaru Dattatreya, and Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh - for the opportunity to lead the university. He also thanked Union Minister Manohar Lal and the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for their guidance and support.

He further said that policies framed for students, faculty, and stakeholders at MDU are progressive, and that the future lies in e-governance, digital learning, and holistic, continuous evaluation-based teaching systems. Expressing confidence in the university’s future, he said MDU would continue to produce capable civil servants, academicians, and leaders for the nation.
