Ludhiana, October 20, 2014: A meeting of United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Ludhiana was held under the leadership of Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma (President).
Inderjit Singh Navyug (Vice President), Manmohan Singh Ubhi (Vice Chairman) Pardeep Wadhwan (Secretary), Ajit Kumar (Prop. Secretary) along with Rajesh Bansal (Rana), Udhamjit Singh, Arjinder Singh Pappu were among those present.
The meeting held discussion regarding sewerage sharing charges, which recently the government has imposed on the industrialist. The meeting strongly protested against the government decision about imposing of the sewerage sharing charges.
Vishivkarma told that the persons who have already purchased the land either from GLADA or Improvement Trust have already paid the sewerage charges then why again the government is asking the sewerage charges. The factory owners are already paying various taxes to the government like property tax, water disposal on water tubewell, sewerage tax etc. Then why the government is asking for the extra tax in the name of sewerage sharing charges which is already been paid by the owner at the time to purchase of land.
Adding, he said the government is misusing the power against the industrialist of Punjab and forcing them to pay this tax which the UCPMA members strongly opposed.
The meeting decided that whatever the government will do to recover this tax it will strongly be opposed and at no cost this tax will not be given by any industrialists. As today in the present scenario the industries are already facing severe problems due to which they are in the way of closure.  The various reasons due to which the industries are already facing problems are non refund of VAT, China Import, hike of electricity rates etc. In this tough situation the government should help the industries to revive from the tough situation by helping them in every possible way but opposite is being done by the government.
The meeting observed that if the government will impose such type of new taxes to the industrialists then very soon industries will get closed and the economy of Punjab will decrease. Then the industrialists have no other option than to shift to UP. In UP the government is providing all type of facilities to the cycle industries like VAT has been reduce for the cycle worth upto Rs.3500. If this will be done then Punjab can no longer be called as hub of cycle industry and the employment as well as revenue will no more be generated. So the Punjab Government should think about this matter deeply.
The meeting further felt that the government is unnecessary harassing the industrialist by imposing taxes to them.
The meeting took a strong notice of the fact that in order to recover the tax from the industrialists the government has increased the work so fast that within 20 days they have prepared 500 notices and 250 notices have already been sent. The big industries have given time to deposit the money but in order to recover the tax from small scale industries the officers themselves visited the factory.
