Ludhiana, September 9, 2013: Punjab and the North Zone of India has one of the highest incidences of heart disease.

To scientifically better tackle this scourge - the Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgeons of the whole region had a scientific meeting in Ludhiana. Dr.Harinder Singh Bedi – Head of Cardio Vascular Endovascular & Thoracic Surgery of Christian Medical College &Hospital, Ludhiana – was the organising Chairman for this meet.

Dr.Bedi told that 55 surgeons from the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and J & K attended. The experts discussed various aspects of the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The decided to form a Forum so that they can meet on a regular basis. This will help in improving the cardiac services to the people of this region. It was also resolved to stress on preventive aspects of heart disease and also to disseminate knowledge of the latest advances to the people and to the general physicians.

Dr.Bedi has experience of holding such meets abroad and in Delhi when he was with the Escorts Heart Institute there. He said that the surgeons find such meetings an excellent way to discuss difficult cases so that their experience increases manifold.

Dr Abraham G Thomas – Director of CMC & H - said that the CMC & H encourages such a healthy participation of doctors of all Institutes. Dr.Bedi told that academic meets of this kind encourage the younger surgeons to also develop a keen scientific mind .Dr.Bedi said that a major thrust would be to make affordable cardiac care available to all.
