Ludhiana, January 26, 2013: Republic Day was celebrated by Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana at its Zone-D office here today.

Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria unfurled the National Flag.

In his address, Gohalwaria congratulated the Ludhianvis.

Mayor said several development works were started by the SAD-BJP combine government in the previous House of the Corporation. Of these works, several works were completed. Efforts were on to complete the remaining works. He admitted that the pace of development had affected due to paucity of funds in the past but the things had got normalised now.

Speaking about the pending work of Lakkar Bridge, he said the work had been got started by the previous House in the year 2009. However, the Railways had to complete its work related to the project. Now, the Railways had started working on the project on war footing. He hoped that the project would be completed by March 31 this year partially. He further hoped that the project would be completed by June this year.

He said the work of widening of Jagraon Bridge was under construction, adding however, this project would be taken into hands only after completion of Lakkar Bridge project.

Referring to the problem of traffic congestions on the city roads, Mayor revealed that the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation had chalked out a plan of constructing flyovers of Rs. 30 crore each at Bharat Nagar Chowk, Bhai Bala Chowk and Malhar Chowk on the Ferozepur road to ease out the vehicular traffic. Besides, there was a plan of constructing ROB over railway crossing (Pakhowal Road) at a cost of Rs. 40 crore and another ROB over the grain market railway crossing (rear side Arora Cinema) at a cost of Rs.32 crore.

Regarding the ongoing project of indoor stadium at SBS Nagar, he said 85 per cent work had already been completed and hoped that the remaining work would be completed by March 31 this year.

Mayor also spoke about the Rs. 9,840 crore 29-km-long Metro rail service project in the city. He revealed that the project had already been given clearance and hoped that the work of the project would be started soon. He revealed that 12.357 km long metro rail line would be laid underground. He hoped that the project would be completed by March, 2018.

Further, Mayor revealed that the Corporation was in a move to save power and for this purpose, it was going to convert 80,000 street light points into LED.

He said the city roads got damaged once and again due to rain water, therefore, the Corporation was getting a survey done by IIT Roorkee for proper disposal of rain water. He said the work of 8-laning of Ferozepur road was in progress.
