Ludhiana Group of Colleges Chaukimann celebrates Lohri

Ludhiana, January 14, 2015: The festival of Lohri was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Ludhiana Group of Colleges, Chaukimannwith a lot of exuberance and fanfare. Students and staff danced around bonfire on the tunes of Punjabi songs. The girls were dressed in traditional attire, making the occasion even more exciting. 

All the students and teachers took part in the celebrations enthusiastically. The programme kicked off with "Lohri Poojan." General Secretary of the College Rajeev Gulati, Vikram Grover, Director Dr J.K Chawla along with all other Faculty & staff worshipped 'Dhooni' and groundnuts.

Girls students of the college also pledged to tackle evil and prepare and arm themselves with necessary courage and perseverance to tackle testing situations in their lives. The mood on the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. The function started with speeches in English and Punjabi highlighting the importance of the festival of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter.

The students and teachers sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab. A kite-flying competition was also organised, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Presented Bhangra, folk songs and traditional dances and songs associated with Lohri. The whole function was a scintillating bonanza of modern and traditional culture and heritage. Director Dr. J. K. Chawla congratulated all and dwelled on the importance of such festivals.
