LABOUR CLASS SHOULD ALSO COME FORWARD FOR STRENGTHENING OUR DEMOCRACY: ADDITIONAL DEPUTY COMMISSIONER Ludhiana, May 1, 2019: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 elections, the district administration organised a district level Voter Awareness function for the Labour class at Giaspura Park today. This function was organised on the occasion of World Labour Day and a large number of labourers participated in it. Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Jagraon)-cum-Nodal Officer SVEEP activities was the chief guest on the occasion. The main aim of this function was to make people aware about getting registered as voters and importance of voting. While speaking on the occasion, Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta informed that for educating the labourers about voting, a district level awareness function was organised at Giaspura Park, here today. Similarly, such functions were also organised in labour sheds or labour chowks located in other Vidhan Sabha constituencies today. She informed that the labourers were educated about various aspects of voting, besides the Election Commission of India has also kept a provision of special leave for exercising their right to vote for them. That is why, they should must cast their vote and contribute in strengthening our demoracy. Mrs Gupta has urged all other nodal officers of all Vidhan Sabha constituencies to work hard to ensure maximum poll percentage in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. She said that this time, VVPAT machines would be installed along with the EVMs. She said that the main aim of organising such awareness functions is to make people aware that the EVMs are foolproof. A question answer session on the election process was also organised and the winners were awarded with prizes. During the function, teacher and singer Karamjit Singh Grewal “Lalton Kalan” and Nodal Officer Balwant Singh also encouraged the participants about the importance of voting. The participants also pledged to vote in the upcoming elections. The students from Ishmeet Academy gave a dance performance. ARO Deepak Rahela, DPRO Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal, SDO Suraj Manchanda, Nodal Officer Pawan Kumar, besides several others were also present on the occasion.
