LMD imposes Rs 40, 900 fine on defaulters

KISHTWAR, MARCH 31, 2017: A team of Legal Metrology Department led by Assistant Controller Kapil Jamwal today inspected various business establishments including Karyana shops, Hardware stores, Stationery shops, cement stores, fruit and vegetable shops, meat shops and provision stores of Kishtwar town and adjoining areas.
During checking, 17 defaulters were booked and fined for violation of J&K Standard weight and Measures (Enf.) Act 1997 and packaged Commodities rules as their products were without mandatory declarations. The team imposed a fine of Rs. 40,900/- on 16 defaulters.
Besides, the department directed all the traders to use only those weighing and Measuring instruments for business transaction which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology department and ensure that Maximum Retail Price (MRP), Date of packaging, Net contents and complete address of the manufacture/packer and consumer care number are declared on the commodities to be sold in packaged form.
The department also organized an awareness program at High School Kuleed to raise awareness among the students and other participants about their rights and responsibilities as consumer.
