Lithium Urban Technologies launches electric bus after successful operations of electric cars in India
New Delhi, June 27, 2019: On the 26th of June 2019, Lithium showcased its electric car and bus at the Urban Mobility Workshop organised by the Delhi government in partnership with Rocky Mountain Institute held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. This event was inaugurated by Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot who said “Electric vehicles are called the future, but we are making it happen in the present. Innovations are happening every day. In order to make life better for the common man we need to ensure that the cost of such vehicles becomes less than petrol and diesel vehicles." Echoing the minister’s views, Lithium too believes in creating tomorrow’s transportation today. Since 2014, it has built a fleet of 850+ cars with a pan India presence. Now, they have expanded their fleet by offering 100% electric bus service. The move towards larger form factors can be summarised by Mr Ashwin Mahesh, co-founder of Lithium: "At Lithium, we regularly ask ourselves, "how much of the future of transportation can we introduce today?" The electric bus offering is part of the answer to that question. We learned from our earlier work with passenger cars that integrated strength in operations, informatics and engineering is the key to accelerating the arrival of the future. We'll repeat that with buses too - and change the canvas of mobility, energy and data for bus travel as well. In Delhi NCR alone, we have abated 4,000 MT of CO2e equivalent to the impact of about 48 additional Lodhi Gardens.” Speaking at the Urban Mobility Lab, Clay Stranger, Director India Program for Rocky Mountain Institute, highlighted the need for mobility solutions that are clean, shared and citizen centric. He said: “The mobility ecosystem in India is undergoing a rapid transformation and innovative solutions that move people efficiently are being deployed across the country. Lithium has been a leader of this transformation, and the inclusion of electric buses in their offering is an exciting development.” Lithium has embarked on a Pan-India roadshow showcasing its electric fleet across the country. Kicking off from Hyderabad, the roadshow has covered Pune and Mumbai and is currently in Delhi NCR smoothly riding its way to ensuring a greener and emission free environment. As they interact with corporates and potential EV users to showcase their fleet, they intend to build an ecosystem of believers- entities that will be adopters of electric mobility as the future of transportation.
