Liberalization of Police Verification procedure for passport issuance

Chandigarh, January 25, 2016: Police Verification (PV) has been an integral part of Passport issuance process since its inception. The modalities of police verification have undergone various changes from time to time, whereas the principles have remained the same i.e., ascertaining the applicant’s identity, citizenship and absence of criminal antecedents. The police verification is presently done before the issuance of passport for fresh cases.

In order to further improve and liberalize Police Verification procedure for passport issuance, the Government of India has decided that henceforth even for normal passport applications of all first time applicants police verification will be done after issuance of passport subject to submission of following documents:
i. Aadhaar card
ii. Voter Card
iii. PAN Card
iv. Notarized Affidavit in the format of Annexure-I

These cases will be processed on Post-Police Verification basis, enabling faster issue of passport, without payment of any additional Tatkaal fees, subject to successful online validation of Aadhaar number. In addition, EPIC and PAN card may also be validated, if required, from the respective databases.

Disclosing this Shri Rakesh Agrawal Regional Passport Officer Chandigarh said, if the applicants do not have adhaar card, voter card and pan card then the pre police verification procedure will apply for fresh cases as per the existing procedure. This measure will greatly help people applying for the fresh passport as they will be able to get the passports within 5-7 days. This is a Republic Day gift from the government to the public.
