Gurgaon: In an attempt to avail its students a platform to improve their language and communication skills, the Apeejay Stya University (ASU) recently inaugurated a technology-driven language lab through the help of a special software.
The course of this new software uses artificial intelligence wherein learners can learn at their pace. And the nine levels of learning ensure that learners start with the easier lessons and grow as they move to higher classes.
In a special message, Co-Founder and Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia said she was delighted with the news. “My desire is that not only international students but even Indian students develop their language skills as these are essential for success in the working world, given the increasing globalisation.” The Chancellor said that she hopes ASU students also hone their skills in other international languages besides English.
The Language Lab will be run by the School of Journalism & Mass Communication of ASU which also organised a two- day long workshop related to the new Language Lab. The inauguration, by the Vice -Chancellor of the University, Dr. S.K. Salwan, was followed by an intense workshop for faculty members. The Workshop was led by Mr. Rajesh Pujari, Gurukul Online Learning Solutions (GOLS ) -System Administrator, who shared that several top Indian institutions, including IIT Delhi, were using the software systems to learn languages.
ASU receives several international students who study English, French and German as core subjects on campus. The university also offers basic and advanced English language certificate courses. “Learning international languages, particularly, mastering English, would open new doors for Apeejay students seeking international exposure,” said Dr Salwan while inaugurating the Lab.
Mr.Parveen Malhotra, Business Head, GOLS, opined, “The special feature of ASU Language Lab is the patented Speech Recognition Technology that trains to acquire the ability to speak fluent English (Voice and Accent).”
Moreover, the patented Spoken Error Tracking System (SETS) technology of this software, used by the language lab, automatically detects and corrects pronunciation errors. Features such as reading, writing, speaking and listening during practice sessions make this software special.
