KVK Samrala Imparts Training In Organic Farming

Ludhiana, September 21, 2015: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Samrala) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a one day training programme on “Organic Farming, its Value Addition and Certification” for the farmers and the farm women. The programme was conducted in the Department of Agronomy, PAU under the guidance of Dr S.C Sharma, Associate Director, KVK, Samrala.

Dr Sharma emphasized that farmers should regularly visit KVK for soil testing, agriculture related queries and for participating in the training programmes.

Dr C.S. Aulakh, Senior Agronomist made farmers aware of the certifications and agencies involved in organic farming. He shed light on the challenges being faced by the farmers in practicing organic farming. A field visit was conducted to the Organic Farm at PAU, wherein Dr Aulakh showed different varieties of paddy cultivated through organic farming.

Dr Amandeep delivered a lecture on cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. During the visit to the herbal garden, Dr Amandeep showed various medicinal plants like tulsi, khas, lemon grass, haldi etc. and highlighted their medicinal uses as well.

Dr Ritu Mahal, Assistant Professor, Home Science, apprised the farmers of the processing of organic products.
