KMV students visit Bakhra Dam to enhance their knowledge of generation of electricity

Jalandhar, November 25, 2017: Post Graduation Department of Physics of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, the Heritage and Autonomous institution, Jalandhar organised an educational trip for students of Non-Medical and Computer Science. The students visited Bakhra Dam to enhance their knowledge of the generation of electricity. They learnt about basic working techniques, such as, rotation of turbines, coupling of turbine with generator and then synchronizing voltage and frequency of electricity signal. They also learnt how electricity is transmitted from the generation house to various power gates and then to various commercial and residential areas. They gained knowledge about the working of these equipments and their applications. At the Bakhra Dam, students felt motivated to see how human intelligence can use natural resources for human welfare. The group also visited Anandpur Sahib Gurudwara and Virasat-e-Khalsa. It was a trip in which science, fun and learning were inseparable. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the Physics Department and emphasized the role of such activities in enriching the students knowledge through practical exposure.
