Jalandhar, July 3, 2015: The President, Principal & fraternity of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya is proud to apprise that the college has been conferred with the title Heritage Institution by UGC (Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Govt. of India).  The Principal & staff of the college felicitated Mr Chander Mohan, President Arya Shiksha Mandal on this outstanding achievement and historic moment of the institution  under his stewardship.  Mr. Chander Mohan averred that the institution will scale new heights and achieve higher status in the years to come under the leadership of Principal, Prof. Atima Sharma.  He also appreciated Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma for her dedication, devotion & vision which has been instrumental in making KMV achieve the present status.  Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal, averred that this selection of the college for Heritage Status has been made due to KMV’s pioneering & path breaking initiatives in women education.  Established in 1886 the college is today an iconic cradle of women empowerment & progressive education.  KMV’s role in national development & women empowerment is immeasurable.  A trail blazer ever, the institution today is scaling new heights with its progressive march towards contemporary relevant global education being imparted to the students who come here from many states of India.  Under the heritage status the college has been granted Rs. 80 Lacs by UGC for preserving its heritage and starting new research projects.  It is worth mentioning that only 19 colleges all over India have been conferred with this prestigious status of heritage institution out of many applicants and KMV is the first women college of Punjab to be conferred with this status.  KMV was selected on grounds of its merit and valuable contribution to society across three centuries of its service to humanity.   This status is another crown for KMV after being declared a College with Potential for Excellence, Star College by DBT (Govt. of India) and High ‘A’ grade by UGC-NAAC.
