Jalandhar, September 19, 2015: As a post-accreditation initiative to ponder over solutions for ensuring sustenance, enhancement and  excellence in terms of quality and quantity, IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya - The Heritage Institution organised NAAC sponsored a two-day national seminar on “Higher Education: Ensuring Quality Through Teaching, Learning & Evaluation.” The Chief guest, Dr. G.N. Qazi, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi and the keynote speaker, Dr. Arti Srivastava, Dept. Of Higher & Professional Education (NUEPA) were accorded floral felicitations. Welcoming the eminent guests, the College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi emphasized the need to address the fundamental issues like challenges and solutions to meet new needs & paradigms in Higher Education accruing from unprecedented break-throughs in ICT. In his Presidential address, Sh. Chander Mohan (President, Arya Shiksha Mandal) enlisted some grave challenges like lack of connectivity between education and economic activity, lack of in-depth curriculum and unaffordability due to ITC component.
In his inaugural address, Dr. G.N. Qazi called upon educators, administrators and policymakers to bridge the gap between employability and employment by ensuring quality and relevance. Dr. Arti Srivastava, in her keynote-address, touched upon some important components of Higher Education which should be taken care of as a parallel formal system by forming effective policies. She also observed that to bring out the best minds and creative talents, academic jobs should be ranked and recognized as one of the highest order as it is in western countries.
The proceedings of the day witnessed two plenary sessions. Dr. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Director, Human Resource Development Centre, GNDU, Amritsar was the first invited speaker. She dwelled on learning outcomes adding that it involved broadening of knowledge base, intercultural skills & communication skills in order to give ability to solve personal and professional problems in real life situations. The second speaker, Dr. Taruna C. Dhall, Principal, University College of Education stressed upon the need of engaging learners through facilitative teaching by blending emotional and intellectual appeal in pedagogy. 
In the second plenary session, chaired by Dr. Simran Kaur, Associate Professor, Queens borough Community College, New York, USA, the invited speaker Dr. K.S. Pathania, H.P. University, Shimla talked about the characteristics of a good teacher and gave some important tips on “Reading Skills.”
The proceedings of the second day began with the third plenary session chaired by Dr. Suresh Seth, A renowned writer and academician, Jalandhar. The invited speaker Dr. Gurnam Kaur Bedi, Principal Govt. College, Ajnala, Amritsar, expressing her dissatisfaction over the current education system, which is neither value-based nor need based, exhorted upon the need of having a new model on the lines of ancient Taxila University which can work on Human Happiness Index as RUSA has been assigned the task to frame one. “Overcoming Immunity to Change: The Hidden Dynamics for Growth in Higher Education” was the topic of the talk delivered by Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Giving a new dimension to the discourses during the seminar, Prof. Dwivedi discussed ‘Human Capacity’ as a major engine of growth in the new century. She delved deep into its challenges like technical, adaptive, connectivity between thinking & feeling and emotional ecology and other vital ingredients required for growth in the context of higher education.
During the day, erudite scholars and researchers presented as many as 80 papers touching diverse aspects of the topic of the seminar in three parallel sessions. These sessions were chaired by Dr. Paramjit Kaur Jassal, Principal, Govt. Sports College, Jalandhar, Mrs. Paramjit Ghuman, Govt. Sports College, Jalandhar and Dr. Poornima, Co-ordinator, IQAC, KMV respectively.
The two-day seminar concluded in a Valedictory function in which Prof.(Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the chief guest. In his Valedictory address, Dr. Karamjeet,  elaborated on how to develop a quality culture through Internal Quality Assurance Cells in an illustrative way. He firmly believed that “changing the face” can change nothing but “Facing the change” can change everything if it is done collaboratively and collectively at the organizational level.
Prof. (Dr.) Sharanjit Singh Dillon, Registrar, GNDU, Amritsar the Guest of Honour, shared his firm conviction that a good teacher imparting quality education cannot be substituted. Govts. must provide a strong financial base to the edifice of education to ensure quality as well as quantity. Teachers should also look into evaluation as an important component of this academic system.
The Presiding dignitary, Sh. Rajinder Mayor, Treasurer, KMV Managing Committee shared his valuable experiences and added that quality is an unadulterated virtue of a teacher who commands respect. The organising secretary of the two-day national seminar Ms. Hardeep Kaur read out the detailed report of the proceedings. A formal vote of thanks was extended by Dr. Madhumeet to the present dignitaries, erudite scholars and eminent researchers for their insights and valuable inputs during the seminar.
