Jalandhar, August 25, 2015: Students from the School of Agriculture of Lovely Professional University have won Inter-University Regional Competition on Water Resources Management for their proposal on floating Island approach for sustainable development of Kanjli wetland (in District Kapurthala, Punjab). LPU team’s proposal was highly appreciated by the masses and judges.  Teams further selected on national level will work on the proposal with the help of experts from India and Germany. Through this project, students are expected to develop a multi-stakeholder understanding of the need for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Winning team in nationals will receive awards worth of Rs 14 Lakh, research stays, internship opportunities and grants to support the project.
 
LPU students won this prestigious regional competition after getting shortlisted in 13 competing teams from state competition. After possible win at national level in 2016 in New Delhi, LPU students are poised to compete internationally in Germany later on. Regional competitions were also held at Delhi, Kolkata, Goa, Jalandhar and Trivandrum, and two teams from each region have been selected for national competition. 
 
The different levels’ competition is a clarion call to Indian youth to take the lead in solving India’s water problems. Planned by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), competition is funded by Robert Bosch Stiftung, WAPCOS, Ministry of Water Resources Government of India and US-AID.  LPU team has been constituted of mentors Dr Madhu Shrama, Mr Vivek Srivastava, and students- Pushapati Chandana, Anand Charvin, Athira, VS Puneet, R Singhal and Prithvi Ram. 
 
Congratulating the winning students, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal said: “We always want that the students must inculcate in them a great competitive zeal. This time agriculture students of the university have revealed this excellence which is a great leap towards bright career ahead.” Mrs Mittal also shared: “Our School of Agriculture has already been ranked top in India by prestigious magazine ‘Siliconindia’ after going for a comprehensive survey based on real worth, quality of talent and performance of the students. For SiliconIndia Team, LPU School of Agriculture is an institution where students can learn the science of agriculture beyond a mere farming.”
