Kairon Felicitates Promising Rowers On Spectacular Victory In 34th National Rowing Championship

Chandigarh, February 2, 2016: In a simple but impressive function organized by the Punjab Rowing Association at Chandigarh Lake Club, the winner team of the 34TH National Rowing Championship was today honoured for exhibiting spectacular performance by winning gold, silver and bronze medals at Hyderabad from January 25 to January 31, 2016.
            Honoring the young promising players, mostly from the Punjabi University Patiala sports department, the President of Punjab Rowing Association, Mr.Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon said that it was a matter of pride for Punjab that the team with limited resources has won the medals. The Punjab government would do all out efforts to further encourage the young and promising rowers who have, because of their immense commitment and dedication for the game, excelled and reached at a level from where they would be groomed for international competitions. He said that Punjab government was determined to provide world class infrastructure in different disciplines of sports including Rowing the players would be given many opportunities to compete at national and international levels.
Laying out the objective of Punjab Rowers Association, Mr. Kairon said that it has the vision to popularize the game to the grassroots levels and preparing the talented oarsmen to participate in the Olympics and other global events. He also said that the winners would also be given the cash prize from the government as per the policy formulated for the medal winners.
            Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Mr. Jaspreet Singh Sidhu, Secretary Punjab Rowers Association, Dr. Raj Kumar Director Sports Punjabi University Patiala and other officers from Punjab police and sports department.
