Kairon assures no compromise with interests of workers and farmers

Chandigarh, April 9, 2015: Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon today assured the delegation of workers of Food and Allied Workers Union that their interests would be protected by the government.

Kairon was meeting the members of workers delegation led by its president and former Member Parliament Kewal Singh here at Punjab Bhawan. The Minister informed the delegation that Punjab has increased 25 percent wages of labourers. Wages have been enhanced from Rs.1.30 paise to Rs Rs. 1.53 paise which is informal in the entire state, he added. He also said that government has always formulated policies which were conducive to every involved in the procedure and have always been balanced. He reiterated that the government would always safeguard their interests and would work towards eradicating difficulties faced by them. The interests of the labourer and the farmers would always be protected, said Kairon.

Lauding the day and night hard work of farmers and labourers working in mandi and fields, Kairon said credit goes to our peasantry and labourers for making nation self-reliant on food security front. Punjab was the major contributor of grains in the Central pool. He also asked the union to ensure smooth procurement, lifting and storage of wheat, which has started arriving in mandis. The Minister also said that they would meet again after the wheat season to hold detailed discussion regarding formation of policy for next season.

Meanwhile, thanking Kairon for constant cooperation and hearing issues of union sympathetically, Kewal Singh also assured the Minister that there would be no laxity during the ongoing procurement season. He also thanked Minister for making direct communication with the labourers to resolve their issues.
