Jalandhar, January 3, 2015: Following the guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC), an oratory competition on ‘use of technology and innovation in promotion of good governance’ has been organised at Punjab Technical University, here today. It was organised on the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India. 11 senior assistants and 2 clerks participated in the competition in which they stressed upon the role of technology in promoting good governance and the role university is playing in it.
Dr. Yoginder Yadav, Director, Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy remained Guest of Honor while Dharinder Tayal, Member Board of Governors, PTU remained Chief Guest for the occasion. In the panel of jury, Amolak Singh Kalsi, DIO at National Informatics Center chaired the panel that also included Ramnita Shardha, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Communication Skills, HMV College and Rajiv Bhatia, cluster branch manager, ICICI Bank.
Sharing his views, Dr. Yoginder Yadav said, “In order to achieve the goal of good governance, team work is quite essential. This is what our worthy PM Narendra Modi stated ‘minimum government and maximum governance’.  Good governance can only be attained through proper and effective planning, which is lacking at various levels. PTU has grown by leaps and bounds just because of its superb governance.”
On the other hand Dr. Dharinder Tayal said, “Our PM has set a couple of instances behind celebrating this day. Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan is one of the examples that tops the list. Innovation is must and it starts with thinking process. Good governance has two aspects- transparency as well as speed. Hence, I can only say that innovation can be started from the bottom through using technology at top.”
Better the team work, better will be the governance, said Dr. Rajneesh Arora, PTU Vice- Chancellor. He added, “There are three key things to be mentioned. First is every group has some purpose/ goal to attain within a specific period of time and PTU has defined its purpose of promoting quality education. Second is, there is essential need to identify the persons who are performing well and who are just passing their time. Third is technology and innovation are ever-growing. I am pleased to say that PTU family has cope up with the latest technologies in a very short period of time, which is a sign of good governance itself.”
Out of 13 participants, Satnam Rai, Senior Assistant, Secrecy Branch bagged the first prize of cash Rs. 15, 000, whereas, Sukhjinder Singh, Senior Assistant from Examination Branch won second position along with the cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and there was a tie in third position between Rakesh Kumar, Senior Assistant (Academic branch) and Arshinder Kaur, Senior Assistant, Examination branch
