Mumbai/Chandigarh, September 14, 2015: ICICI today offered to include financial services in the Sewa Kendras being established in Punjab besides becoming partners in setting up skill development centers.
This offer was made by ICICI managing director and CEO Chanda Kochar during a meeting with Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at the ICICI Bank Towers here.
Besides meeting Ms Kochar, the Deputy chief minister also called upon Dr Ajay Piramal, Chairman Piramal group, Mr A M Naik, Chairman L&T and Mr Ashok Hinduja, Chairman Hinduja group besides others.
During the meeting, Ms Kochhar said ICICI could include banking services as well as social welfare transactions and agri short term loans within the Sewa Kendras. She said this would go a long way towards financial inclusion. She also offered to sign a mou with the State government to insure State employees. She said she would visit Punjab for this purpose besides sending a team to the State.
Following a proposal by the Deputy CM, the ICICI MD also offered to partner with the Punjab government in developing skill centers for girls. Mr Badal said the State was offering a model whereby the government would construct the Infrastructure while interested companies could provide soft skills and manage the centers.
Mr Badal while welcoming the proposal said his vision was to invite major companies to do rural banking within the more than 2,000 Sewa Kendra complexes coming up in the State. ICICI also offered Aadhar certification, life time certification and online collection solutions on the occasion.
Meanwhile during a meeting with Mr Ajay Piramal of Piramal group, Mr Badal highlighted the initiatives taken by Punjab including establishing the Invest Punjab department, decision to charge the lowest power tariff of Rs 4.90 per unit for all new industry for a ten year period and concessions including the facility to retain as much 90 per cent VAT. Mr Piramal while appreciating the steps taken by Punjab from the stand point of ease of doing business, said his company would examine ways and means to contribute in the State's growth story.
The Deputy CM during his meetings said establishing IT and data centers in Mohali was 25 per cent more cost effective then Mumbai and Bangalore. He said besides physical infrastructure, Mohali also had the best social infrastructure.
Mr Badal also held meetings with Mr A M Naik, Chairman L&T and Mr Ashok Hinduja, Chairnan Hinduja group besides representatives of Shapoorji Pallonji group. Mr Naik said L&T had invested Rs 13,000 in Punjab and would continue to collaborate in infrastructure projects in the State.
Mr Ashok Hinduja said the company had initiated paper work to establish a driving school in Kapurthala. He said the company would also explore the possibility of establishing a manufacturing plant in Punjab.
Those present on the occasion included chief parliamentary secretary N K Sharma, Media Advisor to the Deputy CM - Jangveer Singh and senior officials including Mr Karan Avtar Singh, Anirudh Tewari and P S Aujla.
