HMV organised DBT sponsored workshop on Drug Designing & Application of Bioinformatics

Jalandhar, October 23, 2016: The Zoology and Bioinformatics departments of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized DBT sponsored one day workshop on Drug Designing & application of Bioinformatics. On this occasion, the resource persons were Dr. Amit Nargotra, Senior Scientist, Discovery Informatics Division, CSIR, Jammu and Ms. Priya Mahajan, SRF, CSIR, Jammu. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed the resource persons. Dr. Amit Nargotra gave his lecture on the topic ‘Computational aspect in Drug Designing’. He explained the process of Drug Discovery and told that it is an integrated field which includes various departments like Botany, Zoology, Biotech, Chemistry and Bioinformatics. Drug designing is a very complex and long process. He told that bringing a new drug in market will take almost 16 years. Second resource person Ms. Priya Mahajan told about ‘Tools and Software used in Drug Designing Process’. She discussed about various important tools and databases used in drug discovery process. She also gave hands on practice of these softwares to the students. On this occasion, Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen congratulated workshop Convener Dr. Seema Marwaha, Organizing Secretary Mr. Harpreet Singh, Organizing Committee Dr. Ekta Khosla and Mrs. Purnima. She also encouraged the students for making their career in the field of drug designing. Head of Chemistry department Mrs. Jyoti Kaul and other science teachers were also present there.
