Ludhiana, October 31, 2018: Due to the increase in the cold conditions & winder winds, HELPS Welfare Society of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana organised an event named Vastra Anudana in which team collected the clothes from the staff colony of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana & distributed clothes in the mid-night to poor people who spent their live on road.

Avinash, founder of Helps Welfare Society said that there are people who have much more than they need to live while others have barely enough to survive. Poor people do not have enough clothing, food, education and healthcare. Being poor means to be deprived economically, politically and socially. They hardly get opportunities. They have inadequate nutrition, higher risk of diseases and lack access to healthcare and basic essentials for living resulting in low achievement. One cannot make such people opulent but can at least help them achieve the essentials of life and lead a prosperous life. Helping the poor and needy people is a good deed. Caring for the poor and needy people and helping them is a noble endeavor. The more you give to poor and needy people, the more you strengthen their dependency. If you give them the chance or opportunity, you’ll see an effective and long-lasting improvement in their lives. Create a new system built on inter-dependency which motivates them to work and move forward and their dignity is maintained. Tossing out money or other kinds of donation do help the poor and needy people but the need is to direct your energies and efforts in raising them, building relationship, teaching them and moreover, regaining their self-confidence and self-esteem to work for themselves.

Alka Bharti, Co-convenor of Helps Welfare Society said that from last 3 year HELPS has been organising an Event named Vastra Anudana iin this clothes are distributed to needy people in the mid-night.

This year the society has come with new planning of distribution. Three team were made to cover the Ludhiana city.

and clothes were distributed to people residing on footpath. The area covered included GNE College, Ludhiana , Nearby Ludhiana Bus stand & Jagraon Bridge and Slum areas near at Canal. The distribution started at 11pm & end at 1:30AM with new date by bringing smile on the some faces.

Amarjeet, Convenor of HELPS said on the behalf of organisation, this event was taken as a project & this would save thousands of valuable lives and help them survive the harshness of nature. Just imagine what a small child or an old woman has to face in winter nights when they have hardly even full-sized thin clothings to cover their bodies in wide open. No heaters, no shelter, no sweaters, no blankets. Those who cannot face, die. Lets prevent this loss. What we give, comes back to us. Lets help our brothers and sisters. All humans are our family members. How can we enjoy the warmth of heaters and jackets when our own family is shivering to death?

Prof. Shivani Arora Abrol, Advisor of HELPS said that I am very happy to see the energy in this new team of HELPS which includes Ritu, Anurag, Shashwat, Ranbir Kaur, Alpna, Himanshu, Deepak, Prem,Shaqib, Vivek, Miltan,Sangita, Anuradha. She congratulated the students & wished for their success.

Every year the society organises collection drive in GNE premises. By conducting collection drives for clothes, blankets and other necessities one can help the poor and needy people. The society aims to extend this project to large level and Would conduct collection drives in other schools, college, offices or locality and reaches to the neediest people. It is one of the easiest way to help the poor and needy people. setting up containers at schools, or local premises in which people can drop off donations, ask offices to donate to the drive.
