Chandigarh, October 1, 2015: Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today asked the District Administration, Ferozepur to make available a chunk of 20 acres of land in contiguity for the setting up of PGI Satellite Centre at the earliest so as to ensure its timely completion besides providing quality healthcare and diagnostic facilities to the people of the border areas.

Presiding over a high level meeting to review the progress of various development works in the Ferozepur City here at Punjab Bhawan this morning, the Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur to expedite the formalities required for handing over the possession of the site to the PGI authorities so that the satellite institute could be established shortly.

The Chief Minister also assured the BJP President Mr. Kamal Sharma who raised several issues related to the development of Ferozepur that all the ongoing projects would be completed on the priority. He also told Mr. Sharma that he would soon take up the issue of construction of Railway under Bridge (RUB) at Basti Tankanwali with the Ministry of Railways and write a D.O. letter to the Union Railways Minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu for soliciting his personal intervention for its construction at the earliest.

Agreeing to another demand to provide direct rail link between Ferozepur and Amritsar, Mr. Badal also assured the BJP Punjab State Unit President that he would also request Mr. Prabhu to get this project pending with the Ministry of Railways since long, cleared soon without any further delay. Realizing immense significance of this project to boost trade and commerce activity in the border region, the Chief Minister said he would personally take up this issue with the Railways Minister to get it approved in the next Union Railway Budget.

Responding to another issue for the completion of Water Supply and Sewerage system, the CEO of Water Supply and Sewerage Board apprised the Chief Minister that out of 36.53 KMs of Water Supply piped line, 35.70 KMs has already been completed. Similarly, out of 52 KMs of Sewerage line, 37 KMs had already been laid in Ferozepur and the work on Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) of 18 MLD Capacity would also begin soon after the allotment of the land and made functional by July 2016. Mr. Badal also asked the Deputy Commissioner to immediately get the possession of the selected site handed over to the Board for the construction of STP expeditiously.

The Chief Minister also directed the Additional Chief Secretary PWD (B&R) to take up the issue for constructing Ferozepur City bypass from NH-95 to State Highway-20 via Kunde-Attari having length of 20.40 KM and widening of 23.20 KM road from Ferozepur to Mallanwala from 5.5 Meter to 7 Meter with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, GoI. He also assured Mr. Sharma that the upcoming meritorious school and C-Pyte centre at Hakumat Singh Wala would be completed soon. Likewise, he also asked the PWD (B&R) Department to complete the project for laying Astroturf at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium and instructed Chief Administrator GLADA to undertake beautification of PUDA sites in the city.

The Chief Minister also informed Mr. Sharma that he would also personally take up the issue of installation of light and sound at Hussainiwala memorial at Indo-Pak border with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs so as to get this work accomplished on the top priority.

Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking keen interest for the expeditious implementation of several development projects and schemes, Mr. Kamal Sharma assured Mr. Badal he would also personally pursue the development issues in the concerned Ministries to get them cleared on the priority. He said these development projects would further give impetus to the overall growth and prosperity in the region.
