Ludhiana, August 3, 2016: To acquaint the newly admitted students with the working of college, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana organised a two day orientation programme.
The programme started with the welcome address by HoD (Applied Sciences) Dr.R.P.Singh who congratulated the students for getting admission into the prestigious institute.
Dr. M.S.Saini, Director while welcoming the young engineering aspirants dwelled on the achievements of the institute. He shared that college has been consistently ranked amongst the top ranking engineering institutes of the country including IITs & NITs by various independent surveys prominent being the ABP News Outstanding Engineering Institute North Award, Week-Hansa First position in north India in category of top engineering colleges, CSR GHRDC second position in category of top engineering colleges of eminence. He exhorted the students to work tirelessly to maintain the standards of the institution.
Dr. Y.S.Brar, Dean (Student Welfare) in his welcome address explained about rules and regulations of the college.
Dr. Jatinder Kapoor, Dean(Hostels) gave details about the hostel facilities available and the hostel rules.
Dean Academics & PG; Dr. Rupinder Singh gave an insight about the academic rules of the institute. This was followed by welcome by all department heads.
On day two of the orientation program, the students were apprised of the various activities which they can indulge in during their stay in the college in order to groom their personalities. They were apprised S.Major Singh regarding the institute library which is well stocked with books and also has the DELNET facility. He also explained about the large repository of journals and reference books. The Training and placement cell presentation gave an insight into how the recruiters recruit the engineering graduates.
Dr. Harwinder Singh, Incharge NCC apprised that we are the only technical institute in north India associated with 3BN of NCC. He told about the daily parade routine and other activities of NCC. Prof. Deepinder Singh, Officer-in-Charge, NSS apprised that the college has been allotted 8 units comprising of 100 students each for NSS work. He explained about the various activities undertaken by NSS like Blood donation camps, one day camps, trekking activities etc. He also stressed upon the need for maintaining NSS diary. This was followed by presentations by various societies/clubs in the college viz. Students' Chapter Institution of Engineers (SCIE) , Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE), Association of Civil Engineers (ACES), Information Technology Club(ITIAN), Linux user group (LUG), Indian Telecommunication & Electronics Society (IETE), Cultural Club, Photography & Fine arts club etc.
The students were apprised of the procedures of enrollment for the various societies and also the activities these societies perform.
The session ended with a vote of thanks by the coordinator of the session & PRO Er. Arvind Dhingra.
