Guru Kashi University pays rich tributes to Dr Kalkat

Talwandi Sabo, January 30, 2018: Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat, former Agricultural Commissioner, GOI, Vice- Chancellor of PAU, and Director of Agriculture, Punjab, who left for his heavenly abode recently was remembered by the Officers, Deans, Directors , faculty and students and of Guru Kashi University today.
In a largely attended condolence meeting held in the University College of Agriculture, Dr Kalkat’s contribution in planning, implementation and reprioritization of policies of agriculture in Punjab in particular and India in general, were lauded by the Dean of the College Dr Ajmer Singh Sidhu, who described him as the father of Green Revolution in India.
Paying rich tributes to Dr Kalkat, the GKU Vice Chancellor, Dr B.S.Dhaliwal said that he will be ever remembered for his contributions in agriculture sector.
The Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr Jagpal Singh expressed that Dr Kalkat’s passing away has created a vacuum in Punjab as he had been a visionary agrarian doyen.
The Registrar, Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman said that Dr Kalkat was utterly simple; soft-spoken and futurist agricultural scientist who always thought to better the plight of farmers through developing farmer-friendly policies and their effective implementation.
To mark respect to the departed soul a two minute silence was observed.
