Ghaziabad lawyers boycott courts

Ghaziabad, April 16 (IANS) Lawyers from Ghaziabad Wednesday boycotted the courts here after a former bar association secretary was allegedly manhandled and roughed up at a police station.

The bar association appealed to all lawyers to boycott court proceedings Wednesday.

The decision was taken after former bar secretary Sashi Tyagi was allegedly manhandled at the Kavi Nagar police station April 13 when he had gone to inquire about the detention of his nephew.

"Four constables who were drunk roughed up our former secretary. When he told them he was a lawyer, the drunken constables dragged him outside and abused him and threw him out of the police station," said Anil Pandit, president of the Ghaziabad bar association.

A police inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
