New Delhi, February 4, 2016: With the multilateral and bilateral trade agreements taking the order of trade development the tariff barriers are gradually going away. However, the non-tariff measures - the sanitary and phyto sanitary measures (SPS) and also the technical barriers to trade (TBT) are gaining more relevance be it for the purposes of standardisation, conformity assessment, product and consumer safety, conforming the environmental and social requirements etc. or for the purposes as being used as tools to restrict imports from competing countries of the world, said Mr. Ajay Sahai, Director General & CEO, FIEO.

The declining trends in Indian exports demand appropriate response and action towards the growing number of SPS and TBT measures, being adopted by various countries, from all the stakeholders involved in value chain including Government, FIEO and Exporting Industry as a whole added Mr. Thomas Fuhrmann, Managing Director, TUV Rheinland India Pvt. Ltd.

In this context, it is very much required that Indian exporters rightly understand the applicable SPS-TBT measures in exporting countries or countries of use of Indian  manufactured goods & services.

Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) thus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TUV Rheinland India Pvt. Ltd, a group company of TUV Rheinland, Germany to support its members in better understanding the requirements related to standardization, conformity assessment, product & consumer safety, applicable social and environmental  requirements, meet the growing private standards in order to enhance  and contribute towards the overall market  competitiveness of Indian exporters, help them become part of global supply chain and ultimately have smooth market access across the global markets.

The co-operation agreement includes benefits to FIEO members like technical expertise, advise, training, inspection, testing, certification at subsidized costs and contribute policy level technical inputs considering the global expertise of TUV Rheinland.
