FEROZEPUR, DECEMBER 21, 2016: Parvinder Singh “Pindi”, the Golden boy of Ferozepur and a member of Junior Hockey World Cup Winner team, was given a hero like welcome after reaching Ferozepur today. Parvinder, who belongs to Village Sodhewala, a small Village of this border district, said that after winning the junior world cup, he is eying for a spot in the senior national team. Hundreds of youth belonging to this border town, for whom “Pindi” is an icon now, were raising slogans and dancing in joy. Sunil Kumar Sharma, District Sports Officer, Manmeet Singh Rubbal, Coach of Parvinder “Pindi”, members from Ferozepur Sports Association (SAF) welcomed “Pindi” at Octroi Number seven in the Ferozepur Cantonment area. Later, the procession reached Baba Sher Shah Wali chownk where he was welcomed by Deputy Commissioner B.S. Dhaliwal and other senior officials belonging to Ferozepur administration and police including Harjit Singh, SDM, Ferozepur, Kashmir Kaur, SP (Crime) welcomed “Pindi”. The members of Baba Sher Shah Wali Trust including Gurnaib Singh Brar, former MLA, Ashok Kumar, Manager, Ashok Behal, Secretary, Red Cross, Harnarain Singh Laddi, Ex-DSO also welcomed him.
Later, “Pindi” along with the procession reached Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium where he got all the training in hockey since he was ten years old. “I still feel it is a dream and not reality”, said an emotional “Pindi”.
