Chandigarh, November 21, 2016: The Courtyard at Elante Mall, the region’s favourite destination for shopping, food and fun, virtually turned into a Mini Rajasthan as Chandigarh Administrator and Punjab Governor V.P. Singh Badnore inaugurated the three-day Royal Rajasthan Festival at the mall amid much fanfare today.
Addressing visitors after kicking off the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp along with Elante Chief Operating Officer Anil Malhotra, Badnore commended Elante for its initiative to promote cultural exchange through such festivals. “We need stronger cultural ties to build a stronger India,” he said.
The three-day “Padharo Mhare Desh Rangeelo Rajasthan” extravaganza got off to a soulful start with a spellbinding performance by noted Sufi-folk singer Mame Khan. The audience in the jam-packed Courtyard went into raptures as Mame Khan, who is renowned for his wide repertoire of folk-Sufi blends with a traditional Rajasthani touch, enthralled them with stirring songs like “Mast Qalandar”, “Chhap Tilak”, “Jugni”, “Baaware”, the song from the film “Luck By Chance” that announced his arrival in Bollywood, and, of course, “Chaudhary”, the Coke Studio Season 2 @ MTV number that brought him instant recognition.
Elante has brought alive the spirit of the Land of Deserts to transport visitors to the wonderful world of Rajasthan with vibrant stalls serving mouth-watering Rajasthani cuisines, breathtaking artifacts made by rural artisans and captivating performances by folk artistes, all in the backdrop of an imposing Rajasthani Haveli and music from traditional instruments playing in the background.
In what comes as icing on the cake, the second and third days of the festival will also witness riveting performances by Rajasthani folk musicians, singers and dancers. All eyes will be on Rajasthani folk dancers as they go about showcasing various dance forms from all over the state, like ‘kalbelia’, ‘ghoomar’ and ‘chari’.
Terming the Royal Rajasthan Festival as yet another effort by Elante to connect people and bring them closer through cultural activities, Elante Mall Chief Operating Officer Anil Malhotra said, “The idea behind organising this festival is to offer our patrons a royal experience. We have showcased Rajasthan in all its glory and regal splendour to make it a truly memorable event for one and all.”
