ECI issued notification for Talwandi Sabo and Patiala assembly bye-elections

Chandigarh, July 26, 2014: The Election Commission of India has today issued the notification for the Talwandi Sabo and Patiala Assembly bye-elections.
While disclosing this here, V.K. Singh, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said that polling for bye-elections would be held on August 21, 2014 from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. He said that on the first day of nominations, no candidate has filed nomination papers in both assembly constituencies. He said that nomination for the bye-elections would continue till August 2, 2014.
V.K. Singh further mentioned that scrutiny of nominations would be done on August 4, while the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is August 6, counting would be held on August 25 and the whole election process to be completed before August 30, 2014. He said that the Model Code of Conduct has already come in force in district Bathinda and Patiala and shall remain in force till the completion of election process.
He reiterated that candidates can file their nomination papers before the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)-cum-Returning Officers between 11:00 am to 3:00pm on any day other than a public holiday up till August 2, 2014. He said that nomination papers must be filed in the form of 2B Blank forms available with the District Election Officer/Returning Officer. He further said that on July 27, 2014, being a Sunday and July 29, 2014 being Idu’l Fitr are holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, so nomination papers would not be filed on that days.
