Mohali, March 10, 2016: Children should eat healthy, drink enough water, avoid excessive sugar or salt in diet, avoid junk food and indulge in sports to keep fit and active, said Dr Raka Kaushal, renowned nephrologist, at the Oakridge International School, Mohali on the occasion of World Kidney Day (WKD) today.

WKD is a Global awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.

The theme of WKD this year is "Kidney Disease & Children - Act Early to Prevent It". It emphasises that it is crucial for us to encourage education of the importance of kidneys and a healthy lifestyle in children so that we can combat the vast burden of preventable kidney diseases.

In keeping with the theme this year, Dr Raka Kaushal, Consultant Nephrologist and Renal Transplant Physician, Ivy Hospital, Mohali, conducted an awareness programme, wherein she educated around 200 children of Oakridge International School of the importance of the kidneys and how to take care of them.

The school children were taught the importance of "Move Your Feet" i.e. indulge in physical activities like walking, cycling, jogging, dancing, etc to have a healthy future life. Children enjoyed and eagerly participated in the interactive session.
