Double Helical National Health Awards 2017 announced in New Delhi

New Delhi: To acknowledge the extraordinary contribution of doctors and allied professionals hailing from all over the country, Double Helical, India’s leading health magazine, announced the winners of Double Helical National Health Awards 2017 at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi on Monday evening. More than 400 doctors and eminent persons from other fields witnessed the glittering awards ceremony organised to encourage healthcare professionals to do quality work and contribute towards realisation of the goal of Health for All. The awards were given in various categories including awards for social commitment and sustainable services in housing to bring to light the good work being done in healthcare and other fields across the country.

This is the third time when the awards were conducted by the magazine after holding the ‘Double Helical National Health Awards 2016’ in Hotel Ashoka in New Delhi and ‘Double Helical State Health Awards – Rajasthan at Jaipur, recently. The New Delhi event will be followed by similar gala events to be held in various states. By organizing the National Health Awards event, the magazine took the capital-capital by storm. Eminent professionals from the medical, social and political fields took a keen part in the night long definitive event of the Indian healthcare sector.
Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Affairs graced the awards ceremony as Chief Guest, accompanied by Smt Mridula Sinha, Governor of Goa; Shri Sharad Tripathi, MP (Lok Sabha), Uttar Pradesh, and Shri Shamsher Singh Manhas, MP (Rajya Sabha), Jammu and Kashmir as Guests of Honour. Other eminent persons present on the occasion included Dr K K Aggarwal, National President, Indian Medical Association (IMA); Dr A K Agarwal, Professor of Excellence, Maulana Azad Medical College; Dr. Vinay Agrawal, Ex-National President, IMA and Founder Chairman, Max Superspeciality Hospital, VaishalI; Mr Amresh Kumar Tiwari, Editor-in-Chief, Double Helical and Mr Vishal Duggal, Consulting Editor, Double Helical. The programme began with lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and other eminent people. It was followed by a soulful rendition of Ganesh Vandana; inspiring speeches made by the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, and stalwarts of the medical field, and presentation of awards to the deserving winners. In between the award proceedings, the audience was entertained with delightful cultural performances.
It was an immaculate award show that honoured and felicitated doctors, hospitals and institutions for their tireless efforts for society. The winners on the award night were extremely happy and joyous at the recognition of their efforts and hard work at such a prestigious level. The awardees were chosen after a rigorous selection amongst the medical community pan-India. The different award categories acknowledged the efforts of the who’s who of the Indian healthcare sector for their outstanding achievements in providing the best medical care with a healing touch.

1. Dr Annamma Madukayil Luka: For Outstanding Work in Undertaking Specialized Surgical Procedures in Rural Areas

Dr Annamma Madukayil Luka, surgeon par excellence, is rendering her service from the very inception of Holy Cross Hospital, Ambikapur, Surguja, Chhattisgarh, since 1976, as Chief Surgeon and medical Superintendent. She has been dedicated all her life for the service of the poor, downtrodden and marginalized.

2. Dr Dineshkumar Chirla Padmarao: For Pioneering Work in Establishing Advance Neonatal Intensive Care

Dr Dineshkumar Chirla Padmarao is Head of the Department & Director-Intensive Care Services at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Hyderabad. He was a key member in establishing Tertiary Children’s Hospital in Hyderabad and surrounding states. He has set Guinness Book of World Record of assembly maximum number of preterm babies under one roof.

3. Dr Rama Joshi: For Excellence in Establishing Robotic Onco Gynaecsurgical Program

Dr Rama Joshi is an acclaimed gynae-oncosurgeon of international repute, who has played a pioneering role in India over two decades. Currently, she is the Director, Department of Gynae-Oncology at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, where she has established a world-class Robotic Surgery program.

4. Dr. K R Balakrishnan: For Pioneering work in Heart Transplant Surgery in India

A pioneer in the field of heart transplantation and organ preservation, he has done 170 heart transplants, the highest in India and Asia, with excellent results. He has helped establish transplant programs in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.

5. Dr. Kishore Phadke: For Excellence in Paediatric Nephrology

Dr. Kishore D Phadke, considered as a “Father of Paediatric Nephrology in India”, is known for his immense contributions to the development of Paediatric Nephrology and improving outcomes of children with kidney diseases in India.

6. Dr Glory Alexander: For Outstanding Work in Providing Medical Care to HIV Positive Patients

Dr Glory Alexander has worked in the field of HIV/AIDS for the last 21 years. She is a gold medallist in MD Medicine from Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, Madras University.

7. Dr Aruna C. Ramesh: For Pioneering work in Emergency Medicine & Disaster Management

Professor Aruna established the Emergency Medicine department in 2004 at Ramaiah Hospital. As a researcher, Dr Aruna is currently spearheading research in a national task force on road traffic accidents.

8. Dr Vinay Verma: For Excellence in Diagnostic Acumenship and Patient care

Dr Verma is currently the CEO of Alchemist Hospital at Panchkula. He is MD in Internal Medicine & has more than 3 decades of clinical experience. He is contributing in providing quality healthcare to people of Haryana over the past 27 years.

9. Dr. Vikram I. Shah: For Outstanding Record in Knee Replacement Surgery with his Own Innovation of “Zero Technique”

Dr. Vikram Shah, M.S. Orthopaedics is known across the world for his surgical process called “Zero Technique” which has revolutionized the Total Knee Replacement Surgery. He is the founder Chairman & Managing Director of Shalby Hospitals, Ahmedabad, a multi-specialty hospital chain.

10. Dr Anupam Sibal: For Excellence in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Prof Sibal is the Group Medical Director of Apollo Hospitals and a Senior Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Apollo Centre for Advanced Paediatrics. He helped set up the first successful paediatric liver transplant program in India in 1998.

11. Dr N P Singh: For Excellence in Medicine and Nephrology

12. Dr Siddarth Ramji: For Outstanding Contribution in Neonatology by Way of Using ‘Room Air for New Borne Resuscitation

Dr. Siddarth Ramji, Professor of Neonatology and Dean, Maulana Azad Medical College, has made significant contributions to shaping the newborn health policy in India. His pioneering research on the use of room air in delivery room resuscitation of newborns has changed neonatal care globally.

13. Dr H S Chhabra: For Outstanding Contribution in Management of Spine Cord Injuries

Dr H S Chhabra, MS (Orthopaedics) is a renowned spine surgeon affiliated with Indian Spinal Injuries Centre as its Chief of Spine Service & Medical Director. He is President Elect, International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) and Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI).

14. Dr Brij Agrawal: For Excellence in Hepato-Gastroenterology Services

17. Dr Dharma Choudhary: For Outstanding Work in Bone Marrow Transplant

Dr Dharma Choudhary is one of the most prominent bone marrow transplant physicians in the country with a proven experience of conducting life-saving transplant procedures, earning him the distinction of being one of the most reliable and experienced in his field. Under his illustrious leadership, the Centre was able to successfully conduct Allogenic Stem Cell Transplants and Autologous Stem Cell Transplants.

18. Dr Anjana Singh: For Pioneering Work in Establishing Accredited Medical Laboratory Services in Bihar

Dr Anjana has an experience of 31 years in Laboratory Medicine. She set up her laboratory with the aim to provide the ailing population of Bihar with quality laboratory Services.

19. Vice Admiral (Dr ) Bipin Puri: For Outstanding Contribution in Delivering of Quality Medical Services for the Armed Forces

He has been Honorary Surgeon to the President of India (PHS) in June 2016. He was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal on 26 Jan 17.

20. Dr M C Misra: For Leadership Role in Establishing State of Art Trauma Centre

Professor Mahesh Chandra Misra left AIIMS after 37 years of distinguished service on 31st January 2017, and joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as Sr. Consultant Surgeon. Prof. Misra is credited with the establishment of Apex Trauma Centre at AIIMS.

21. Dr T S Mahant: For Outstanding Work in Cardio-Vascular Surgeries for Under-Privileged Children

Dr. T S Mahant is an eminent Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon. Dr Sara Varughese is an ophthalmologist and public health specialist who works in the arena of inclusive development, particularly on the issues of people with disability. She is currently the director of Christoffel-Blindenmission (CBM), an international disability and development organization.

26. Dr Kirti Bhushan: For Outstanding Work in Public Health Services

Dr Bhushan worked in various Delhi Government Dispensaries and in Central Jail Tihar Hospital. He is presently DGHS Delhi Government.
