Ludhiana, July 23, 2015: Two documentary films on the lives of Progressive Farmers were screened in the Committee Room of Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, yesterday evening. PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr.Baldev Singh Dhillon and Deans, Directors of PAU and a couple of progressive farmers were present on this occasion.

A film titled “Mudke da moti” (a pearl of sweat) depicted the life and achievements of Shri Mohinder Singh Grewal, a Progressive Farmer from Kanganwal in Ludhiana district.

The other film titled “Jo keha so kar dikhaya” (I accomplished what I said) was on the life of Late Sardarni Jagbir Kaur, an ace women farmer and wife of Shri Mohinder Singh Grewal. The films depicted how the couple made great strides in farming to won national and international recognitions. Practicing intensive agriculture and crop diversification Mr. Grewal successfully grew up five crops a year at the farm. The duo also excelled in subsidiary occupation like bee keeping, poultry and piggery.

In his comments, Dr. Dhillon described Mr. Grewal a person with extra ordinary capabilities. He excelled in every sphere of farming like vegetable cultivation, fruit cultivation, bee-keeping, etc. As a diversified farmer he has set an example for other farmers, he remarked. Dr. Dhillon prayed for his long, healthy and prosperous life and wished he would continue to serve the peasantry of the state.

Mr. Mohinder Singh Grewal, former Member, Commission for Agriculture Costs and Price (CACP), Govt. of India told the audience that his wife has been a source of inspiration and support for him. After her death in 1995 he feels his life is incomplete without her.

Earlier, Dr. Chander Mohan, Additional Director of Communication while welcoming the guests gave a brief account of achievements of Mr. Grewal.
