Ludhiana, September 19, 2014: Department of Community Medicine, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana organised refresher training for all anganwadi workers of Ludhiana district on behalf of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The training was sponsored by Govt. of Punjab.
The training which was inaugurated by Dr. Daljit Singh, Principal, DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana in the  presence of  Dr. Anurag Chaudhary, Professor  & Head, Dept. of Community Medicine, DMC&H, Ludhiana on 16th April 2014 was successfully completed on 11th September 2014.  A total of 2234 anganwadi workers were trained in 41 batches by 8 resource persons viz. Dr. Sarit Sharma (Professor) Dr. Sangeeta Girdhar(Associate Professor),Dr. Mahesh Satija (Associate Professor), Dr. Pushapindra Kaushal(Assistant Professor),Dr. Vikram Kumar Gupta(Assistant Professor), Dr. Priya Bansal(Assistant Professor), Dr.Harmesh S.Bains (Professor & Head, Pediatrics Deptt.) and Dr. Pankaj Kumar(Assistant Professor, Psychiatry Deptt.) DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana.
The main purpose of the training included teaching the Anganwadi workers regarding early identification of at-risk pregnant and lactating women, children under 5 years of age & adolescent girls and advising them prompt referral to health care facilities. Other objectives included training regarding counseling to parents about good child care practices, family planning, early identification of mental disorders etc.
