Ludhiana, March 20, 2013: To commemorate the martyrdom day of India’s most cherished youth icon, Shaheed-e-Azam, Bhagat Singh, an Inter-College Declamation and Poster-making contest was organised today in Dumra Auditorium.

The function was organised by DMCH in association with the Rotaract Club of Ludhiana Medicos.

Principal Dr Daljit Singh along with Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina presided over the function as the chief guest. Those present on the occasion were Dr Sanjeev Uppal, Dr Bharti Uppal, Prof. SP Singh from SRS Government Polytechnic College, Ludhiana and prominent historian Prof. Vinay Sofat from Arya College, Nawan Shaher.

Paying rich tributes to sacrifice made by Bhagat Singh, Dr Daljit Singh said that the nation should be bowing its head with gratitude before the freedom fighters like S.Bhagat Singh who have sacrificed their lives to enable us to breathe in a free country.

Prof. Vinay Sofat from Arya College, Nawan Shaher said that the epoch making personalities of these young revolutionaries shook the roots of the seemingly invincible British empire. The essence of their ideology should not be forgotten by their brethren, the young generation.

To confront all these challenges, the youth brigade should take a pledge to work relentlessly with commitment and in order to change this world - we should change ourselves, said Dr Sanjeev Uppal. Driving inspiration from the great martyrs who laid down their lives for our nation, Dr Uppal urged the youth to work unitedly, with commitment to realise their dreams. Dr Bharti Uppal, in her message, said that it is even more important to keep the names of these leaders alive by joining hands to maintain and save this hard earned freedom which is inflicted by innumerable ills like drug menace, terrorism, corruption, violence and degradation of values that are threatening to engulf our moral and social fabric.

In the declamation contest, first prize was bagged by Shristi Arora of DMCH while second and third prizes were won by Charnpreet Kaur and Smridhi of BJS Dental College, Ludhiana. Roopleen Kaur from BJS Dental College, Ludhiana won the first prize in poster completion and second and third prizes, in poster competition, were given to Preeti Shahi and Hrajot kaur from College of Nursing, DMCH.
