DISTRICT LEVEL FUNCTION FOR LAUNCH OF “PRADHAN MANTRI SHRAM YOGI MAANDHAN” SCHEME ORGANISED
Ludhiana, March 5, 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a historic Pension Scheme for workers in unorganised sector working as home based workers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, head loaders, brick kiln workers, cobblers, rag pickers, domestic workers, washer men, rickshaw pullers, landless labourers, own account workers, agricultural workers, construction workers, beedi workers, handloom workers, leather workers, audio-visual workers and similar other occupations whose monthly income is Rs 15,000 per month or less and belong to the entry age group of 18-40 years. The scheme named as “Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM)” targets about 42 crores unorganised workers in the country. The Prime Minister has dedicated the scheme to the nation at a central level function from Ahmedabad, which went live at all State and District level functions across the country. A local function for District Ludhiana held today at Bachat Bhawan, Mini Secretariat, Ludhiana where Sh. Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner,Ludhiana along with Sh. Dheeraj Gupta, RPFC-I, Dr. Madhu Gupta, MS, ESI Model Hospital, Sh. S.S.Randhwa ALC, Sh. Mahender Singh, Deputy Director, Sh. Satyawan Singh, Assistant Director, ESIC and other officers from Labour Department and EPFO were present. Sh. Pradeep Aggarwal distributed the PM-SYM cards to beneficiaries and briefed the audience about the salient features of the scheme. PM-SYM is a voluntary contributory pension scheme. Any worker in the unorganised sector whose monthly income is upto Rs. 15,000 and who is between 18-40 years of age and should not be covered under EPF/ESIC/NPS shall be eligible to enter PM-SYM pension scheme. He/she shall receive and assured monthly pension of Rs. 3000 after attaining the age of 60 Years for which he/she shall be deposit a nominal monthly subscription ranging from Rs. 55 to Rs. 200 depending on entry age. The Central Govt. shall also deposit equal matching share of monthly subscription in his pension account. The enrolment will be carried out by all the Common Service Centres. The Unorganised worker will be required to visit the nearest CSC and get enrolled for PM-SYM using Aadhar Card and Savings bank/Jan-Dhan account on self-certification basis. All Labour Offices of State and Central Governments, all the branch offices of LIC, the offices of ESIC/EPFO will act as Facilitation Centres to give full information to the Unorganised workers about the scheme.
