Discussion on Study Scholar Programme
Jalandhar, January 22, 2019: Post Graduate Department of History, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, in collaboration with The 1947 Partition Archive, organised a discussion on Study Scholar Programme. The aim of the programme was to enroll the students for the Oral History Programme being run by The Partition Archive in collaboration with the Stanford University, America. Dr.Suman Chopra, Head of the PG Department of History, welcomed and introduced S.Malkit Singh Ghumaan and Marvi Slathia – the main speakers of the event. Malkit Singh in his interaction with students recalled the cataclysmic events of the Partition. He said that this was the biggest human displacement in the world ever occurred in the annals of history. Marvi Slathia, in her presentation delineates the contour of the programme and elucidated the students how to conduct the interviews. She said that oral history is a new branch of history and The Partition Archive is preserving the firsthand accounts of the survivals of those fateful days. Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra appreciated the initiative of the Archive team and also stressed that there is an urgent need to preserve the oral records of those who witnessed the partition days.Students from various streams actively participated in the discussion which was followed after the presentations. Dr. Karanbir Singh moderated the event. Prof. Jasreen Kaur, Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar, Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Dr. S.S. Bains, Dr. Tarsem Singh, Prof. Jasbir Singh Rana, Prof. Suraj Bhagat, Prof. Sandeep Kaur and other faculty members were also present.
