Jalandhar, October 11, 2013: A delegation of Kanojia Maha Sabha, Punjab led by BJP national executive member Manoranjan Kalia, MLA, on Friday, met Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and submitted a charter of demand.
The delegation demanded that Kanojia (Dhobi) community should be included in the list of SC. The chief minister was apprised that in all over India, except two or three states Kanojia community is enlisted as SC.
The delegates urged that the chief minister might recommend the matter through assembly after getting it approved from the House. It was urged that community centres be provided to the community in all the districts of Punjab, educated youth of the community be adjusted in government sector and enroll youth of the community in different committees to be formed by the government.
The chief minister was informed that a government grant of Rs. 25 lakh was announced for the setting up of a community centre at Jalandhar on April 10, 2011 but it has not been released so far.
Among others, the Sabha’s state president Om Parkash Kanojia, state general secretary Dalip Kanojia, chairman Jalandhar Vipan Kumar Bittu and District Jalandhar president Ravi Kanojia were present.
