Continuing Nursing Education on Theme “Bioethics in Nursing” Held at CMC
Ludhiana, May 15, 2019: Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana is celebrating 125 years of service to the Nation in Healing, Research & Education. Being a part of Quasqui Centennial celebration, In Punjab the College of Nursing, CMC & Hospital, Ludhiana has taken a lead to organizefirst Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Seminar on the theme “Bioethics in Nursing” on 15th May, 2019 for Nursing Faculty, Clinical Nurses and PG students. Bioethics is the study of ethical issues emerging from advances in Biology & Medicine. College of Nursing has felt that there is a great need to organize a CNE on “Bioethics in Nursing” as nurses play a major role in patient care. At the inaugural function Dr. Reena Jairus-Professor & Principal, College of Nursing, Christian Medical College &Hospital, Ludhiana welcomed the dignitaries, guests, participants& introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. William Bhatti-Director, Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana. Dr. William Bhatticongratulated the faculty College of Nursing for organizing the CNE and appreciated the hard work of the faculty. He said that, Bioethics is a branch of applied ethics and this is very important that nurses should learn about this. Dr. JeyarajDurai Pandian-Principal, Christian Medical College & Institute of Allied Health Sciences unfolded the theme. He said that the Medical Profession has evolved from last many centuries. One of the important features in Medical & Nursing Profession is maintaining ethical values when we deal with patients & relatives. Dr. Clarence J. Samuel-Professor andvice Principal, Christian Medical College talked about Bioethical Challenges in the 21st Century– Looking into the Crystal Ball. He said the rapid changes in health care and its correlates such as Health Care Technology, Research, Education, Administration, Communication& more, generates a new and emergent set of ethical problems. These ethical problems require ethical principles to deal with them. The seminar was conducted by eminent speakers. Mrs. Premlata Prakash- Associate Professor presented finding related to research study on “Knowledge and Attitude of Student Nurses towardsBioethics. Findings show that student nurses had positive attitude and less knowledge related to Bioethics”. Mrs. Malini Singh Bhatti & Mrs. Neeta Austin Singha-Associate Professors talked about Ethical Issues in Mental Health Nursing. Prof.(Mrs.) Glory Samuel – Vice Principal& Mrs. Sangeeta Nichols-Assistant Professor did the presentation on Cross Cultural Ethical Practices in Nursing. Mrs. Balqis Victor-Associate Professor highlighted the Importance of Bioethics in Obstetrical Nursing. Mrs. Premlata Prakash-Associate Professor/ HOD, Paediatric Nursing & Mrs. Richa Justin Hans-Assistant Professor highlighted Professional Obligations to Report Harmful Behaviour :Risk to Patients Safety, Child Abuse and Elder Abuse. Mrs. Ritu P. Naihar-Associate Professor/ HOD, Medical Surgical Nursing& Mrs. Sapna D. Malviya-Associate Professor emphasized the Ethical Issues in End of Life Care. Certificates were distributed to the presenters, chairpersons and participants at the valedictory session. During the feedback session, the hard work of the Faculty College of Nursing for the success of CNE was appreciated by all.
