CM For Elaborate Plan To Ensure Proper Disposal Of Waste Water From Punjab Village Ponds

Chandigarh, November 19, 2015: In a bid to ensure proper disposal of waste water from the village ponds, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today asked the officers of the state government to prepare an elaborate plan for initiating this project in a big way.
          Presiding over a high level meeting to review the implementation of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ in the state here at his office this afternoon, the Chief Minister said that this project was needed to be undertaken on a war footing so that villages could be made free from the waste water in ponds, which pose a major threat to the health of the people and environment of the state. He said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) should be prepared within a fortnight, so that the work on this gigantic project could be initiated at the earliest.
          Dwelling on another issue, the Chief Minister also asked the officers to ensure minimum 10 hours of uninterrupted water supply to the villagers through the various ongoing schemes. He said that every household must be given connection of tap water so that they could avail the facility of potable drinking water.
          In a bid to make the state Open Defecation free, the Chief Minister also gave nod for constituting district water and sanitation committees under the Deputy Commissioners with officers of the Zila Parishad and representatives of people as its members. It was informed in the meeting that in order to make people aware about the demerits of open defecation, motivators would be deployed at the village level. Likewise, Mr. Badal was also apprised that the state has already decided to construct 7.92 lakh toilets for providing this facility to every household.
          During the meeting, the Chief Minister also gave approval for enhancing award for motivating the Gram Panchayat Committee by felicitating them at state level function. The committees performing best in the state would be awarded with cash prize of Rs 5 lakh while two other best performing committees would be given Rs three and two lakh respectively.
Prominent amongst other present in the meeting included Cabinet Ministers Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka, Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra, Chief Secretary Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal, Additional Chief Secretary Development Mr. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary Helath Mrs. Vinnie Mahajan, Principal Secretary Finance Mr. DP Reddy, Secretary Irrigation Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu, Secretary Expenditure Mr. Jaspal Singh and Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Ajoy Kumar Sharma.
