Chief Secretary puts work of war heroes memorial and museum on fast track
Chandigarh, December 10, 2014: Sarvesh Kaushal, Chief Secretary today put the construction work of Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum, Amritsar on fast track clearing different impediments coming in its way by setting up institutional monitoring system.
Reviewing the progress work of in a meeting of steering committee held here today he said that to timely complete the dream project of Chief Minister Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal to commemorate the remarkable contribution made by the Punjabi soldiers and officers; all the concerned Departments have to work round the clock. During this meeting, attended by the senior most officials of the State, issues related to construction of the site, provision of funds, concept finalisation, clearances etc. were discussed. 
Chief Secretary issued instructions to Financial Commissioner (Forest) and Secretary PWD to resolve all issues and provide necessary clearance regarding the Memorial within next 7 days. Chief Secretary asked the concept committee to complete the study of all the historical aspects to be displayed in the museum and get the same approved from Chief Minister in next three days. Batting for evolving a foolproof mechanism for the Operation and Maintenance of the Memorial, the Chief Secretary said that integrated Maintenance of this ambitious project after its completion must also be ensured.
Giving more details, a spokesperson further said that Chief Secretary will meet Defence Secretary and other concerned officers of GoI in next week to obtain the Artefacts, Trophies and other material to be displayed in the War Memorial. He said that sub groups and sub committees have been formed to effectively manage the work within time limits. This state-of-the art memorial cum museum to come over an area of seven acre on Amritsar-Attari Road.
He further said that War Heroes Memorial would become a source of inspiration for the future generations and hoped that this prestigious memorial would act as a lighthouse to inspire the youngsters for serving the nation thereby displaying the ethos of Punjabi's valour and patriotism. He said that there was no dearth of funds for this ambitious project coming up at a cost of Rs. 100 crore and Rs. 15 crore has already been released by the Finance Department.  
It is pertinent to mention that this war memorial cum museum would be equipped with ultra-modern techniques and the visitors will get a mesmerizing affect during the visit to the place. The spokesperson added  that the steering committee formed to monitor the pace of work of this project shall meet regularly to expedite  the work of this project.
Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Technical Advisor to Chief Minister Lt. General (Retd.) BS Dhaliwal,  Secretary Defence Services Welfare SR Ladhar, Secretary PWD & MD PIDB Anurag Aggarwal, Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar, R Venkata Ratnam , Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Ravi Bhagat, Chief Architect Ms. Sapna, Brig (Retd)  J  S Arora, Director, Defence Welfare.
