BRIBE: CBI arrests superintendent and inspector of service tax department

Jalandhar, January 5, 2013: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector of Service Tax, Department of Revenue (Ministry of Finance), CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh from the complainant.

The complainant had alleged in his complaint that the Superintendent and the Inspector of Service Tax Department were demanding an illegal gratification of Rs.1 lakh for favourable settlement of his service tax liabilities.

After registering a case, CBI laid a trap and both the accused persons were caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh from the complainant.

Searches have been carried out at the official and residential premises of accused persons. Incriminating documents recovered during searches, are being scrutinised.

Both the accused  were produced today before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Patiala House Courts at Delhi and were remanded to two days police custody.
